I am humbled, honored, and grateful to have been selected as a recipient of the “Best Presentation Award” in the 66th annual meeting of Japanese Society of Allergology, 2017. The award is a great honor for me, and inspires me to progress further to reach my career goals.

Currently, I am focusing on the effects of obesity on severe asthma. Asthma is a complex heterogeneous disease. While both asthma and obesity have been increasing in most developed countries, it is well known that a disproportionate number of patients with severe asthma are obese. However, despite an increasing number of recent studies, the mechanistic link of obesity with severe asthma remains to be fully understood. Therefore, I tried to identify potential blood biomarkers which characterize obese severe asthma patients and successfully found promising biomarkers such as club cell 16-kDa secretory protein (CC16) and CC chemokine ligand 18 (CCL18) in obese severe asthma patients.

I think we are still at the beginning of success road and we need to conduct more epidemiological and laboratory studies to have a deeper look at mechanistic effects of obesity in severe asthma patients.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Professor Masaharu Nishimura and Dr. Satoshi Konno for the tremendous support that they have provided me. I look forward to continuing my research and teaching activities in our department.
